Limp Bizkit
Published in Paperback by Griffin Trade Paperback (October, 2000)
Author: Colin Devenish
Average review score:

Life Altering
This book not only changed my view of Limp Bizkit, but my view of books in general. It even changed my life, prompting me to shave my head, donate all my possesions, and live a life full of veracity and empathy. Mr. Devenish captures the heart and spirit of The Bizkit in whirling Hemingway meets Hunter Thompson prose. Like other readers, I sleep with this book.

I used to be a german
Excluding the times when I was a german, there were several occasions of Irish. Then i was adopted by three strong women from Santa Cruz; they had yards full of car parts and gourds big as oxes. Mayflies came through, then died. Maria Shriver visited on occasion too; we had sweaty interactions behind the house. This book made me an Alsatian.

for a road trip
i always hated this band and thought they were jerks. somehow, through the magic of prose, mr. devenish breathes life into the putrid offal that i once thought was limp bizkit. i read it on the way to my summer cottage in somerville, ma. i was so tickled to learn the band's favorite foods. i eagerly await the issue of more books by this gifted, upcoming writer.

p.s. like greg heller, i also love men now b.c. of this book. amazing!

Marriage on the Rock: God's Design for Your Dream Marriage
Published in Hardcover by Majestic Media (October, 1996)
Authors: Jimmy Evans and Kimberly Fritts
Average review score:

God's Answer ;Plain and simple
Finally a relationship book has been created based on what your marriage needs! He continually describes the reasons why marriage should get better and better every year. I have read just about every book out there, but this one walks you through step by step and relates to the Word of God. He writes about the 4 kinds of destructive wifes/husbands and helps to end the destruction. Overall, it is a wonderful book.

Your Marriage Can Be Better
I wish I had read this book 32 years ago before I was married. Jimmy Evans shows God's plan for marriage in such a simple way. He uses scripture to back up everything he says. After putting into practice what God has told us all along, I see our marriage only getting better and better. I'm not much of a reader but this is a book that you want to hurry and finish and begin applying the principles because you know that it'll work. Jimmy Evans is to be commended for being faithful to follow God's leadership and put this book together. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to save their marriage and/or to make it all that God intends for our marriage.

Complete Marriage Resource
This is the best one source my wife and I have found regarding marriage. The author is practical and comprehensive, covering everything from sex to dealing with your in-laws! We had a good marriage before reading this book, but we now have a happier and more fulfilling marriage by applying the principles that were in "Marriage on the Rock". I really would encourage any couple, whether they are on the brink of divorce, or want to take achieve a greater level of intimacy, to get this book.

Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper With Steven Gaines.
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group (May, 1976)
Author: Alice Cooper
Average review score:

Great story
Funny autobiography. A must-have for avid Alice Cooper fans.

Alice Rocks
I read this book on the internet. After reading it I was hungover for a week while consuming no alchohol that week. This book has lots of interesting information on the Alice Cooper band. Particulary from the mid to late 60's Before they hit it big. this book shows that bands today are no match for the A.C. Band. Also show's music at its most interesting time when Bands were aloud to have fun being a rock stars. The A.C. Band achieved this in spades while keeping the integrity of their raw, organic sound unlike popular music today. This book is like a welcome passport to that time and revisit a great band gone but not forgotten.

IT IS THE BEST!!!!!!
I am a huge fan of Alice and Me, Alice is a great book to read if you're like me. It tells you about his childhood and about his adulthood. I think all Alice lovers should read this book.

To Gaze at Morrissey
It's lovely to look at pictures of Morrissey online, but the experience is enhanced ten-fold when holding the photographs in your hands. Much credit to Sterling for capturing Morrissey's essence.

Morrissey Shot rules!!!!!
This book is really great if you are somebody who is really into Morrissey--or even if you have just a slight interest. You get to see the hard work of touring the world which is normally kept behind the hard-to-reach gates of backstage.A great book for anyone with ANY interest in the world of Moz.

Flawless
After gazing at countless photographs of Morrissey, I still get that magical mysterious feeling whenever I see pictures of him. This book is definitely a must have. The world still won't listen.

The Oldies Music Aptitude Test: Trivia Fun for Armchair Deejays
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (01 December, 2000)
Author: Barbara Jastrab
Average review score:

Best seller on Oldiesmusic.com two years in a row
There had to be something to all the praise over at Oldiesmusic.com about this book. So I bought it and now I understand. This is one truly different and fun trivia book. You know all those "multiple-guess" (yawn!) trivia books? Thankfully, this isn't like those at all! This one has funny categories and it's actually humorous! There are clever cartoons too that oldies lovers will really appreciate. Just take a look at the cover art, hahaha!

Spread the word, this is a super fun book and why it's not available in "real" bookstores is beyond comprehension. My college reunion is coming up and I'll bring this along with my lava lamp and Desiderata poster to set the mood. ;->

Best $... I ever spent on a trivia book, I must say!

Hohoho

A humbling experience
I consider myself to be a bit of a trivia buff, from history to TV to music. At least I did before I got this book. Barb Jastrab has assembled a set of "tests" within the book to help you determine whether you are a "player" or a "pretender" in the world of trivia. Once you begin, you can't stop! It's funny, it's enlightening, it's humbling, and it's full of "DUH I should have known that" moments. Challenging and fun, well balanced.

I do have one complaint, Ms. Jastrab. You are responsible for eight hangovers this past weekend.

Your book and an eggtimer became the fodder for a drinking game of sorts after an otherwise civilized dinner party. Yes, I know better, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Anyway, at my age, I suffer a bit more than I did in my youth after such foolishness.

We have all agreed that next time we do this, we'll play for orange juice. But play again we must! Thanks for a great book and a fun challenge.

The Oldies Music Aptitude Test: Trivia Fun for Armchair DJ's
This book is not only fun, but hilariously funny at times and so well put together!! The author, Barb Jastrab seems to have had as much fun writing it as I have had trying to solve it. A very
challenging and fun book. One I would recommend to anyone who enjoys oldies music!

Painting Flowers on Rocks
Published in Paperback by North Light Books (April, 1999)
Author: Lin Wellford
Average review score:

Most Fun I've Ever Had With Rocks
I haven't painted since childhood and was shocked at the cost of canvas and "traditional" painting media. I happened upon this book, obtained some rocks from a friend's pasture and have been painting rocks ever since! We don't have the smooth river rocks in our local streams, so I go to a local rock yard to get them which yielded some excellent customers for my creations! I've had more fun painting in 3-D. The illustrations and directions are EXCELLENT! Anyone can do this with these great books!

Unbelievably easy and so much fun
I never painted before and this past month I've painted eight rocks with results just like the photos in the book. I always knew that I had a talent for art, but never nurtured it because quite frankly, drawing or painting on two dimensional paper was very boring to me. However, this method is more interesting and fun. You paint on a three dimensional surface, rocks, that are free for the taking, and you can produce colorful, interesting, fun, and permanent pieces of art so quickly and easily. The minute I saw this book, it clicked for me, and I knew I had to give it a try. If you ever had aspirations to make art, but never did, try painting rocks with the help of this book. You just might surprise yourself with the results.

The Need for More Lin Wellford Books!!!!!
I can't wait for more books from this author! Painting Flowers On Rocks is an awesome book! This book goes through different flowers, such as roses, tulips, primroses, petunias, etc. It demonstrates how steps are done to create the painting, with wonderful colored photos and simple instructions.

I was very surprised that it really is easy. I started out painting tulips on slate and they weren't looking like much of anything. When I finished I was astonished to see a great looking painting in front of me. The tulips looked REAL.

I really do like this book. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys flowers. If you are new to painting, this is the book to start with. The wording is so easy to understand! These rocks, and this book would make a great gift for anyone. Along with my real flowers, this summer I think I am going to have a section for a rock garden!

Lynyrd Skynyrd: An Oral History
Published in Paperback by Spike (05 October, 1999)
Authors: Lee Ballinger and Dave Marsh
Average review score:

Informative history of the Lynyrd Skynyrd rock-n-roll band
Lynyrd Skynyrd: An Oral History by Lee Ballinger (West Coast Editor of "Rock & Rap Confidential") is a unique and informative history of the Lynyrd Skynyrd rock-n-roll band as seen through the eyes and told in quotes of the people who were around them before, during, and after their sometimes legendary performances -- as well as the 1977 plan crash that killed almost half of the original band. Consisting entirely of quotes and brief vignettes by different people concerning various topics and performances concerning the band, Lynyrd Skynyrd is highly readable, fascinating to flip through, distinctive in its presentation, and highly recommended reading for rock 'n roll enthusiasts in general, and the legions of Lynyrd Skynyrd fans in particular.

Great Job
Lee Ballinger does a great job of capturing the spirit of Lynyrd Skynyrd. This book is a must for any Skynyrd fan.

Lynyrd Skynyrd: An Oral History
This is a wonderful book, told by those of us who were there; band members, employees, relatives and contemporaries. Lee has done a fine job portraying one of America's best rock and roll bands, doing so with the words of people who knew the band and were part of the dream. This book provides some unique insights into the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd and their classic music, a must-read for anyone interested in this band. Great job, Lee!

On the Rock
Published in Hardcover by Beaufort Books, Inc. (November, 1980)
Author: Alvin and Robert Livesey Karpis
Average review score:

A super star at the super prison.
Alvin Karpis is the only man to survive earning the sobriquet "public enemy #1". After a whirlwind time as one of the most infamous outlaws in the lawless days of the1930s, Karpis was captured alive and sent to Alcatraz. His twenty-five years in America's first super-prison is the subject of this memoir.

Built as the government's answer to the 1930's wave of kidnappings and bank-robberies, Alcatraz was to be an escape-proof prison housing only the elite of the criminal world. It was certainly proof that 'crime doesn't pay' especially for the American taxpayers.

Karpis' memoires of his life on the rock showcase his amazing memory and are full of his experieces with the infamous residents of the super-prision. He either has a photograpich memory or his ghost-writer did a great deal of research.

While this is an interesting and informative book, rest assured that Karpis spends a great deal of time making sure that he always presents himself in the most favorable light even if the truth has to suffer.

ON THE ROCK
"ON THE ROCK" by Robert Livesey is a Five-Star book. This true story is told by Public Enemy Number One Alvin Karpis, to Livesey. Karpis decribes his 33 years behind bars, 26 of which were spent in Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. In 1934, only four men ever held the title Public Enemy Number One, John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson and Alvin Karpis. Karpis was the only one who survived the era. This is his story and he told it how it happened. ...Great Book!

insightful and entertaining
alvin karpis the man who documents his life in alcatraz, describes how he survived being held captive on the rock for 25 years.all the fights he had to fight just to survive.how so many prisoners attempted to escape but failed.they either got shot or drowned.one of the surprises was that karpis knew al capone.and how capone went crazy when he got infectefd and died of syphillis.its a tough book about struggle on the rock and its a good one.wish you luck finding it.

Reflections of a Rock Lobster: A Story About Growing Up Gay
Published in Paperback by Consortium Book Sales & Dist (March, 1995)
Author: Aaron Fricke
Average review score:

Where is Aaron Fricke now?
This is a great book for both teens and adults who are coming out, along with Best Little Boy in The World. The author of the latter revealed himself to be Andrew Tobias a well-known financial writer, and he wrote a sequal to let us know how things turned out for him. But, I haven't been able to find out what has become of Aaron Fricke. (He hasn't written anything since the book that he wrote with his father in the late 80's). I hope that he is doing well. Does anybody know what has become of him?

A must read for any gay teen - or anybody!
The first person I 'came out' to was a great friend, he reccomended this book to me, and it was the most worthwhile book I'd ever read. Anyone who is coming out, has come out, is thinking of coming out, or knows someone who is coming out should read this book. The first person perspective is endearing, and you can really feel for the author.

A helpful book for gay teens
When I came out at fourteen my mother bought "Reflections of a Rock Lobster" for me as her way of showing support. This book was very helpful to me at that time in my life. It was well written and kept my interest. The fact that it dealt with feelings and issues many gay teens face made me feel more comfortable to be myself. I would recommend anyone who knows of a gay teen who has just come out and needs support, or any teen for that matter to have them read this book. If you have read this book and liked it I would also recommend "Not Like Other Boys--Growing Up Gay, A Mother and Son Look Back" by Marlene Fanta Shyer, Christopher Shyer.

Rock & the Pop Narcotic
Published in Paperback by Two Thirteen Sixty-One Pubns (December, 1996)
Author: Joe Carducci
Average review score:

Rock and Roll all Night (and all day)
This book is impressive, and not only for the deep knowledge of rock that Carducci displays. The opening chapters describing what the "real" sounds of rock are should be required reading for anyone interested in forming a band. The scope of this book is unrivalled and the selections for the most influential bands will raise more than a few eyebrows (No where else will you see James "Blood" Ulmer mentioned in the same vein as Sabbath). Carducci rightly praises the "Black" bands (Sabbath and Flag) as the most influential in their respective genre's, but it may come as a surprise to many that Carducci attributes (perhaps correctly) the original "wall of sound" approach to Eddie Cochrane. While this book doesn't cover heavy metal and it's sub-genres very completely (see Ian Christe's Sound of the Beast for that), it wasn't meant to (see Title). In addition, this is one of the few books that credits (rightly) the Ramones for their widespread influence (early Black Flag and the Misfits to name two of the most well-known). In addition to the depth of knowledge displayed, Carducci will have you rolling in laughter more than once. If all the above is not enough, the appendices with original poster art and one of the funniest Ray Pettibon paintings (Give me librium or give me meth....) are worth the price of the book alone. Buy it and then buy some essential music!

This is a great book!
This is the first book I read that spoke about rock music intelligently and at the same time it was not the elitist slobber most critical views of popular culture resort to (making us suffer). It ain't policticlly correct--but rock shouldn't be that way either and sadly today--it is--for the most part. After I read this book I incoorporated it in to most of my college research papers. (I am an A student)

The best rock book ever?
Carducci brought me back to rock after years of exploring free jazz and electronic music. He radically realigns the history of rock to emphasize its working class continuum and at the same time destroys the credibility of the entire rock critic establishment. Essential.
